How can I tell whether a banknote is counterfeit?
The most reliable way to tell whether a banknote is counterfeit is to verify it with an automatic detector tested by the European Central Bank, which checks features invisible to the human eye in under a second: infrared ink, magnetic ink, metallic thread, thickness and colour. Manual methods (touch, holding the note up to the light, detector pens) do not catch today's high-quality forgeries.
Which counterfeit banknote detector does my business need?

What does it mean that a detector is tested by the European Central Bank?
It means the machine has passed the ECB's official tests with real counterfeit notes withdrawn from circulation, and appears on the public list of devices that detect 100 % of the forgeries tested (ecb.int). If a seller cannot prove this test, they cannot guarantee detection.
